Raising Jewish Children

Choosing which faith to raise your child(ren) is an important discussion that couples need to have. By choosing to raise your child in your partner’s faith, you have given a huge gift to your partner. Now what are the next steps?

Choosing to raise your child in your partner’s faith is just the first decision. Next comes, learning about your partner’s religion so you can assist in raising your child in your partner’s faith and you feel comfortable. Rabbi Joyce can assist you in learning about the faith, customs, traditions and beliefs. This can be done together as partners or in a group class. Topics to be covered are Shabbat, Jewish holidays, ritual items and much more.

Steps to take as partners/couple:

  1. Decide which faith to raise your child
  2. Learn about your partner’s faith
  3. Actively parent your child in that faith
  4. Seek out professional help on how to do this and still maintain your own faith/identity.
  5. Contact Rabbi Joyce for a consultation of whether couple counselling or group sessions with other couples experiencing similar experiences would be best for you.
